On Tuesday night, the Ahlulbayt Society in Glasgow, Scotland, held a solemn mourning ceremony to commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of Muslim ibn Aqil, the envoy of Imam al-Husayn (peace be upon him). The event witnessed a significant turnout from members of Arab and Muslim communities, including attendees from neighboring cities.
The program began with a recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an, followed by emotionally stirring poetic verses delivered by Sayyid al-Hakim, which vividly portrayed scenes from the eternal tragedy of Karbala and the suffering of the Ahlulbayt (peace be upon them).
The keynote speaker, Sayyid Wasel al-Hasan, who had traveled from the city of al-Ahsa, ascended the pulpit to deliver a lecture that addressed historical and jurisprudential matters related to lawful and unlawful acts. He emphasized the importance of upholding and honoring the rituals of Imam al-Husayn (peace be upon him) and all that is associated with the Master of Martyrs. The lecture concluded with a recounting of the martyrdom of Muslim ibn Aqil, moving the audience to deep emotion.
Attendees were particularly moved by the powerful elegies recited by eulogy reciter Abdulhadi al-Battan, which stirred profound emotions and brought many to tears as they mourned the tragedy that befell the Ahlulbayt (peace be upon them).
The women’s section also witnessed a strong presence of faithful women from various Islamic countries. A dedicated program was held for them both in the morning and evening sessions, offering a spiritual atmosphere that deepened their connection to Imam al-Husayn and his divine uprising.
The ceremony concluded with the recitation of Ziyarat Imam al-Husayn (peace be upon him), followed by a communal dinner that brought together the followers of Ahlulbayt in a spirit of unity and brotherhood. The mourning program is set to continue beyond the 10th of Muharram, including the daily congregational prayers led by Sayyid Wasel al-Hasan.
