In Preparation for the Arbaeen Pilgrimage: Construction of a Bridge to Facilitate the Movement of Pilgrims and Processions Between the Two Holy Shrines

As part of the intensifying preparations to receive millions of visitors during the Arbaeen pilgrimage of Imam al-Husayn (peace be upon him), a temporary steel bridge has been constructed in the area between the two holy shrines in Karbala to facilitate the movement of pilgrims and Hussaini processions and to reduce congestion in the city during the peak of the pilgrimage.

The bridge aims to enhance the smooth flow of movement between the two shrines by providing an elevated passageway that prevents the intersection of pedestrian traffic with the routes of mourning processions, thereby reducing the usual bottlenecks at this central point of the city.

The bridge is 8 meters wide, divided into two lanes of 4 meters each, and rises more than 4 meters above the ground. It is reinforced with carefully fixed wooden planks to ensure the safety of those crossing it.

The bridge was built in front of the Imam Hasan Gate of the shrine of Abu al-Fadl al-Abbas (peace be upon him) as part of a series of technical and logistical improvements being implemented by the al-Abbas Holy Shrine in preparation for the Arbaeen pilgrimage. This project is one of several measures aimed at facilitating the flow of pilgrims and providing a safer and more organized environment during Iraq’s largest annual religious gathering.
