Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) launched a security operation to safeguard Arbaeen pilgrims traveling along the route between Erbil and Kirkuk, deploying the 16th Brigade under the North and East Tigris command, with fixed checkpoints and mobile patrols targeting pilgrims arriving from northern Iraq and neighboring countries. The initiative aims to streamline pilgrim movement and reduce crowding while ensuring secure passage to Karbala as part of comprehensive pre-Arbaeen security planning.
